Man killed in single-vehicle crash in Champaign County


Two area crashes left one dead and injured an 84-year-old woman in the past two days.

A 31-year-old man was killed after his car clammed into a tree in Champaign County near North Lewisburg Wednesday night.

The crash occurred shortly before 8 p.m. according to information from the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies responded to the 3200 block of Ohio 559 in Rush Twp. They found a 2010 Honda Accord was headed south on Ohio 559 when it went off the road and crashed into a tree.

The driver of the vehicle has not yet been identified, and was pronounced dead at the scene by Josh Richards, Champaign County coroner. The crash is still under investigation.

On Thursday, an 84-year-old woman was taken to the hospital around 5 a.m. after she crashed into a tree on Spangler Road just south of the intersection at Union Road, investigators said.

The female driving was travelling north on Spangler, when she exited the right side of the road and slid along an embankment for approximately 700 feet, officials said. While sliding down the embankment, her vehicle struck a tree and sustained heavy damage, according to reports.

Medics removed the victim from the scene by ambulance and she was transported to Miami Valley Hospital. The woman’s condition was not immediately known.

Troopers believe fatigue or a medical condition may have caused the crash.
