Worship event on Sunday at Veteran’s Park

The Springfield Arts Council will host “When Springfield Sings!” at Veteran’s Park at 8 p.m. on Sunday as part of the Summer Arts Series. This event is an opportunity for diverse congregations of Springfield and Clark County to come together to worship God in the center of our city.

The Nehemiah Foundation coordinates this event every year choosing worship leaders from different congregations to lead our community in praise and worship to God. Our desire is to see people express their faith together as one unified body in Springfield. Our focus is to bring glory to the God who created us. The reason we worship God is to let Him know of our gratitude to Him for his transforming power and guidance in our lives. We want to experience His presence among us as He reminds us of His love for us.

RELATED: When Springfield Sings! to bless Arts Festival once again

The Nehemiah Foundation has chosen the theme for Springfield in 2017 to be “Courage!” Courage is birthed out of hard places. It is not the absence of fear. It is acting with strength in the presence of fear. As we worship together, we speak the truth about the God we serve. Standing on the truth of who God is gives us courage to act with strength to solve the problems that plague our community.

Courage is strengthened in worship. This year, two local recording artists — Rick Lee James and Aaron Clark — will lead a diverse and talented worship team in songs you know and love, including “This is the Day,” “How Great is Our God” and “Break Every Chain.” This event is a perfect opportunity to sing from the bottom of your heart at the top of your lungs.

The Springfield Arts Council offers the Summer Arts Festival free of charge to the community, but the festival is anything but free. The Arts Council lends us its stage crew, its sound and light technicians and its space, all free of charge. The Nehemiah Foundation is grateful to have a place in the summer lineup that recognizes faith and worship as something that our community values. To thank the Arts Council, we have a goal this year of gathering $3,000 when the hat passes at the park to help cover costs and to bless the council for its leadership. Please be a part of the thank you. We show our commitment to our city and our love for God when we give generously to bless.

It takes courage to embrace change and navigate it well. The Nehemiah Foundation is in a season of change. As we move to new leadership in the coming months, we remain constant in our mission to serve the families of Springfield and Clark County by meeting physical, emotional and spiritual needs.

Bring your lawn chair, your bug spray, your voice to praise and your heart to give.
