Urbana native to voice Marvel villain in third Thor film

Urbana native Clancy Brown will have a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in one of Hollywood’s biggest franchises.

Brown will voice the role of the demon Surtur in the upcoming Marvel movie, "Thor: Ragnarok," according to Comicbook.com. The film's director announced the news at this weekend's San Diego Comic Con.

Brown is no stranger to superhero adaptations. Currently he appears on The CW TV show “The Flash” in the recurring role of Gen. Wade Eiling.

He has also portrayed Ray Schoonover in two episodes of the Netflix Marvel series, “Daredevil.”

Brown also voices the role of Lex Luthor in the DC Animated Universe, as well as Mr. Krabs in the popular Nickelodeon cartoon “Spongebob Squarepants.”

Brown has hundreds of acting credits, including the classic film “The Shawshank Redemption.”

“Thor: Ragnarok” — the third film starring the God of Thunder — is directed by Taika Waititiwith. Brown’s voice will appear alongside stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Stephen Strange and Cate Blanchett as Hela. “Thor: Ragnarok” debuts in theaters Nov. 3.
