Urbana crews work to repair water main break

A portion of Scioto Street will be closed and a boil advisory is possible this weekend when Urbana city work crews repair a water main break at 760 Scioto St.

The repairs will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday, and Scioto Street will be closed between Finch Street and Jefferson Avenue, said Robert Munch, water division superintendent in Urbana.

It is possible that water service will be disrupted to residents in that area, Munch said, and the city is notifying businesses and residents in the area so they can be prepared in case service is disrupted. If a boil advisory is necessary either during or after the repairs, the city will issue a Code Red warning.

Information will also be provided on the city’s web site. It is not clear how extensive the repairs will be until the work begins, Munch said.

It is also not clear if residents will be affected, or how many, until workers are able to determine the extent of the damage, Munch said.

“We apologize in advance for any and all inconvenience this may cause, and thank everyone for their anticipated understanding,” he said. “No further information will be available until work is completed.”
