Troy man sentenced in child porn case

A Troy man has been sentenced to two years in prison for having child pornography on his computer.

David Smith, 38, was arrested in December and charged with 25 counts of pandering sexually oriented materials involving a minor.

Smith pleaded guilty to all charges, but for sentencing purposes the charges were consolidated into one count.

The investigation began after Troy police recieved a tip that Smith had child porn images on his computer and cell phone.

Police do not believe the images confiscated involve local children.

As part of the sentence, Smith is classified as a Tier II sex offender. After he is released from prison, Smith will be required to register his address with authorities every 180 days for 25 years.
