Triad students involved in school bus crash

A 17-year-old Triad Schools' student and his 17-year-old passenger were involved in a school bus crash Friday afternoon on Brush Lake Road.

The teen driver slammed his Honda Civic into the back of a packed Triad School bus.

The accident happened just before 3 p.m. during a downpour. The Civic was half-way underneath the bus when it finally came to a stop on the rain-soaked road. A Champaign County Sheriff's deputy on scene said if the car had traveled one foot farther, the two teens may not have survived. Both teens suffered minor injuries.

The school bus was carrying 26 high school and middle school students. No one, including the bus driver, was injured. All of the students were put on to another bus and taken to their homes.

Brush Lake Road is closed while the accident scene is being cleared.
