Tree service worker seriously hurt in Bellefontaine

A man suffered a head injury while working with a tree service at a Bellefontaine home Monday morning.

Fire and rescue crews responded shortly after 10 a.m. to a home in the 1100 block of Greenwood Street.

The victim, whose identity was not released, was working on the ground while a "cherry picker" bucket truck was being used to cut limbs from a tree, according to Bellefontaine Fire Chief Andy Fissel.

A 20-pound, 3-foot section of wood fell and struck him in the back of the head, Fissel said.

MedFlight landed at the Logan County Fairgrounds and transported the victim to Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus.

Authorities said the man is expected to live.
