Teen with traumatic brain injury gets touching prom invite

A teenager’s invitation to high school prom means so much to one Springfield family.

Doctors didn’t think Unik Crochran would survive after he was hit by a van when he was 5 in 2005. Now 12 years later, his childhood friend Tanae Dixon invited him to prom -- a day his family didn’t think he’d get to experience.

“When we got the phone call after everything happened and they tried to tell us that Unik wasn’t going to make it; it really crushed my world,” Dixon said.

She first met Crochran before the accident. They were fast friends and that bond has only gotten stronger.

"Oh, this is my best friend. He's my best friend," she said.

So when it came time for the Springfield High School prom, Dixon knew who she wanted to be her date.

"For him going to prom with me it's like a gift. I'm so excited I can't wait," she said.
