Springfield police said stabbing victims gave conflicting reports

Police in Springfield said two men involved in a stabbing incident early Sunday morning gave conflicting accounts of what happened.

One of the victims, a 23-year-old, suffered a punctured lung and was taken by CareFlight from Springfield Regional Medical Center to Miami Valley Hospital, according to the Springfield police report.

That victim told police he and the other reported victim, a 21-year-old, were shooting billiards at Why Not, 5 N. Murray Street, when they agreed to give an unknown male patron a ride to a Lagonda Avenue address, according to the report.

The unknown male became belligerent during the car ride, started cussing at the reported victims and he was let out of the car before reaching the destination, according to the report.

The victim who was transported by CareFlight told police that he and his friend were concerned about the belligerent passenger and they decided to exit their car and follow the man as he walked toward Lagonda Avenue, according to the report.

The victim told police there was an altercation when the two caught up to the man, who pulled a knife and cut both of them, according to the report.

Police said officers found evidence of some sort of altercation in an alley near the bar. Police said no arrests or charges have been filed because of the conflicting reports from the victims.
