The Springfield Chapter of the NAACP has a new office, located inside the Small Business Development Center on Auburn Avenue.

The office will provide the organization with a one-stop shop to allow residents to voice complaints.

“Prior to that, we were meeting in restaurants and churches and we had to be careful,” said NAACP President Denise Williams, who has led the organization since 2012. “Now, we have conference rooms available to us and our own private office. It’s just fantastic.”

It’s located at 300 E. Auburn Ave., Suite 229. Williams can’t remember the last time the NAACP had an office.

Security National Bank made an undisclosed donation for the organization’s office for the first year.

“The community is coming around to really support the NAACP,” Williams said. “We’re just so thankful to them. They made this possible.”

The organization will also be completing a new website at NAACPSpringfieldOhio.com. The site will also provide staff with dedicated e-mail addresses, Williams said.

“We’re going to have everything you can possibly imagine on our website,” Williams said.

The office will be open from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. The office phone number is 937-521-2650.

The group can also be reached on Facebook by searching NAACP Springfield Ohio.

“We’ve truly been blessed to come this far,” Williams said. “The community has come around to believe that the NAACP is alive and well. We’re here to serve the community.”

The NAACP will be holding its Freedom Fund Banquet at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 7 at the downtown Springfield Courtyard By Marriott, 100 S. Fountain Ave. This year’s theme is “Pursuing Liberty in the face of Injustice.”
