Severe weather possible this Fourth of July

Severe weather could hit this Fourth of July and during the days leading up to it — causing potential problems for fireworks displays — according to the latest WHIO Storm Center 7 forecasts.

Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist Eric Elwell said he’s watching for potential severe storms late Tuesday.

“Monday night into Tuesday, we’re going to look for, perhaps, a few pop-up storms,” Elwell said. “The bigger concern comes late on the Fourth when a storm system approaches from the west. That could bring a pretty good shot for some thunderstorms.”

Elwell said Friday afternoon’s prediction models are uncertain if the the storm system comes in early enough Tuesday to bring severe weather, or holds off until Wednesday.

“It’s something we’re going to be keeping an eye on through the weekend,” he said.

The weekend starts Saturday with passing showers or storms possible, mainly early, with clearing skies late in the day. Highs will be in the lower 80s.
