Owner burned down mobile home

An owner of a mobile home burned down the St. Paris structure because he did not want to dispose of it properly.

St. Paris fire department received a call about a mobile home on fire just after 11 p.m. on Friday . When crews arrived they found a mobile home fully involved with fire.

The unoccupied mobile home burned fast, said St. Paris firefighter Gene Duhman. The mobile home did not have electricity which eased the extinguishing the fire.

Crews spoke with the owner and determined that he started the fire because he want wanted to get rid of the mobile home.

“People do try to burn things instead of hauling or taking it to a landfill,” said Duhman, this was an illegal burn, not an insurance matter.

The owner was not currently living in the mobile home but does live on the property.

In Champaign County, you have to notify your local fire department of control burns and they can not take place after 10 p.m.

The owner will not be cited because it was the first violation.
