Organizers ‘overwhelmed’ by support for Clark County deputy

Organizers for a fundraiser held to benefit an ill Clark County Sheriff’s Office deputy said they have been overwhelmed by the community’s support.

The Chad Eubanks Benefit Dinner and Auction took place at Reid Elementary School in Springfield on Jan. 27. Nearly 500 people showed interest in the event on the fundraiser’s Facebook page, but Christopher Clark, one of the event’s organizers, said almost 600 showed up on Saturday.

“We didn’t get a solid count,” he said.

People from around the greater Springfield area turned up in support of Sgt. Chad Eubanks, who is also the deputy fire chief for German Twp. Eubanks fell ill following a medical procedure and friends of the sergeant decided to organize the fundraiser to help raise money for him and his family.

More than 110 items were donated to be auctioned off and raffled. Clark said some of the items that went for the most money included a seat from Cinergy Field signed by Pete Rose, a thin blue line quilt and some wooden American flags.

“Most of it sold pretty well, though,” he said. “We were blown away.”

Clark said he couldn’t disclose the total amount raised but said it was more than what organizers expected.

People who attended the event were also treated to a spaghetti dinner. Clark said they nearly ran out of food at one point but went out to get more to serve all the people who showed up.

In a message posted on the event’s Facebook page, Clark said he was extremely proud to be part of such a wonderful community.

“The outpouring of support from the community was completely overwhelming and we can’t say thank you enough to all those who donated, attended and purchased,” he said.
