Ohio-made SUV honored by Motor Trend

Honda’s CR-V, manufactured by workers in the company’s East Liberty site in Ohio, was named Motor Trend’s 2018 sport utility vehicle of the year.

The SUV, now in its second model year, beat out 25 competitors according to information from Honda. The vehicle also won the SUV of the year award in 2015.

“The Honda CR-V has earned its place as America’s most popular SUV over the past two decades by providing customers with just the right balance of features, capabilities, fun-to-drive performance and outstanding quality,” said Jeff Conrad, senior vice president of automobile sales and general manager of the Honda Division, American Honda Motor Co.,

Honda is a major employer in the region, with about 1,400 workers from Clark and Champaign counties. It employs more than 14,500 Ohioans overall. Several area companies, including KTH Parts Industries in St. Paris and Parker Trutec in Springfield and Urbana supply parts for Honda.

Honda was also recently recognized by Edmunds, a car shopping and information website. Four Honda vehicles, two of which are manufactured in the automaker's Ohio plants, were included in a list of most in-demand vehicles in the U.S., according to Edmunds.

The CR-V was honored by Motor Trend for details including performance features, efficiency and value.
