More people using Clark County's 211 referral line

The number of people using United Way’s 211 referral line has slightly increased over the past year, officials said Tuesday, July 20.

The call center has received approximately 23,000, about 200 more calls this year over the same time period 2009, said Lin Wagner, director of community services for United Way.

“It’s definitely holding steady,” she added. “We certainly have not seen a decrease.”

The referral line has been available for about 27 years, but the 211 call center was opened in 2006. It’s a one-stop number where area residents can get information about programs, support groups, food pantries, emergency assistance, employment/training services and more from a live person, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The agency also has blog that has slightly increased traffic as well, Wagner said. The address is http://211uwccmc.blogspot.com/.

Job and Family Services renewed its $15,000 annual contract with United Way, a measure Clark County Commissioners approved Tuesday.

“It’s amazing outreach to the community,” said Commissioner John Detrick.
