Local ‘Ninja’ to be on NBC

Warrior competition was held in Cleveland.

Dan Arnold and family enjoy sharing their interest — and Dan’s success — in the “American Ninja Warrior” competition.

Arnold, a nursing home administrator by day, was a participant in the most recent season’s competition that airs on NBC television.

His training for the competition included working out on a “Ninja Warrior” obstacle course set up in the basement of his Carriage Trails neighborhood home. The course also is popular with family, including wife Rebekah and three young sons and a daughter, who play on the course.

To spark interest in the program — and Dan’s participation in the Cleveland city finals to air in August — the family in early July held an “American Ninja Warrior” party in a subdivision green space. They invited neighbors as well as, via Facebook and their website, people in the Huber Heights community. Arnold said around 250 people showed up.

A date for the show had not been announced as of July 20.

Arnold was among 120 participants in the competition this year and made it to the final 30 competitors in Cleveland. He cannot reveal until the show airs how he fared in the end.

A graduate of Tecumseh High School, Arnold said he is a longtime fan of the competition. A brother, Brian Arnold, has appeared on the show several times.

“It was a goal of mine to get on the show, try out the obstacles, and see how good I am,” Dan Arnold said. Another brother, Greg, is training with hopes of getting on the show.

Arnold admits the brothers are more than a little competitive. “Watching my brother on the show, it looked like a lot of fun. I always think I can outdo my brothers at anything,” he said.

“My house is kind of the party house in the neighborhood when it comes to exercise and doing stuff. It is all about having a good time and keeping in shape,” said Arnold. He is a coach, including for youth soccer in Bethel Twp., and holds a black belt in taekwondo.

Arnold also offers ninja obstacle parties for birthdays or other events. For more information, go online to www.ninjaobstacleparties.com.
