Hundreds attend Jeff Wellington funeral


An estimated 800 mourners attended the funeral for Springfield High School student Jeff Wellington at St. John's Baptist Church on Monday.

The teen was shot and killed on Easter at 2:45 a.m., apparently while trying to resolve a conflict at an apartment complex in the 2300 block of North Limestone Street.

Wellington was a junior at the school, where he ran track and was a standout running back on the football team.

The shooter has not been found.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Tyrin Hawkins.
