SPRINGFIELD — The two young artists who designed this year’s cover of the Clark County Fair wanted it to be a bit more creative than past years.

Kendall DeWine, 14, and Katie Cassell, 13, of the Stitch and Bake Kids 4-H Club decided to sketch and color a bird’s eye view of the fair.

The Ferris wheel, food stands selling lemonade, fries and pizza and the youth building can be seen, as well several barns — a scene that will be visible as the first day the 2010 fair kicks off — Friday, July 23 at noon.

The fair’s theme is “At the Heart of Good Ole Family Fun,” which is why the fair scene is encased in a heart-shaped border.

Allan Hess, fair executive director, said the entry was chosen out of 14 other competitors.

The girls started with the Ferris wheel and drew around it.

“We tried to imagine the fair and think of what was there,” Cassell said.

Brenda DeWine, 4-H adviser and Kendall’s mother, said the 4-H group was awarded $250 for the girls’ winning drawing.

“We were so excited because what happens in the long run, there will be t-shirts made with the cover design on it that will be given out to 4-H members at the fair,” Brenda DeWine said.
