Gas prices decline in the Miami Valley

Gas prices have fallen in Southwest Ohio and the Miami Valley, following a brief increase before Thanksgiving.

Average retail gas prices in Dayton fell 9.1 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $1.97 per gallon on Sunday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 391 gas outlets in Dayton.

The national average also declined 1.3 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.12 a gallon, according to GasBuddy.com.

Prices registered on Sunday were 15.3 cents higher than one year ago, but were 12 cents lower than a month ago.

Experts suggest December normally means lower gas prices across the country.

“Prices at the pump generally fall in December,” Gregg Laskoski, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy said. “Over the past four years the average decline from Dec. 1 to Dec. 31 has been 15 cents per gallon and I’d have to think most of us would be pretty happy with that.”

According to GasBuddy.com, the average price for a gallon of gas in Dayton is $1.98, with prices stable. The cheapest gas, as of Monday morning, is $1.89 at the Valero at South Smithville Road and Huffman Avenue in Dayton.

In Hamilton, the average price for a gallon of gas is $2.04, with prices stable. The cheapest gas is $1.94 at Murphy USA at Princeton Road and Ohio 4.

In Springfield, the average price for a gallon of gas is $1.98, with prices stable. The cheapest gas is $1.93 at Marathon at Springfield-Xenia Road near Sparrow Road.
