Freeze watch for the area is in the offing

A freeze watch for the area early Thursday will follow a possible chance for a mix of rain and wet snow tonight, Storm Center 7 Meteorologist McCall Vrydaghs said.

With temperatures still above freezing, a complete change over to snow tonight is not expected, she said. The best areas to see mixing will be north of Interstate 70 late tonight and before sunrise Wednesday.

With road temperatures above freezing, travel conditions should be fine as only wet roads are expected, Vrydaghs said.

Wednesday night, look for cold with lows around 30 degrees, scattered clouds with temperatures at or below freezing. A freeze watch will be in effect from 2 a.m. until 10 a.m. Thursday for the entire News Center 7 viewing area, plus Butler and Warren counties to the south and Fayette, Franklin, Union and Wayne counties in Indiana, said Vrydaghs.

Any unprotected outdoor plants may be damaged or killed by the freeze.

Thursday will be mostly cloudy and cool with highs in the low to mid-40s. A stray rain or snow shower is possible and a hard freeze is possible Thursday night with temperatures falling into the upper 20s, Vrydaghs said.

Friday will be mostly sunny and cool with highs in the upper 40s.
