Background/overview

Chester Folck owned a well-known Jersey Cattle Farm for decades on Ohio, just south of Springfield. Later his son, Gene Folck, raised Simmental Beef Cattle on that same farm. One of Gene’s sons, Bob graduated from Greenon High School and chose Ohio State University to further his education in agriculture.

In 1988, Bob attended a “meat judging and evaluation” event that included teams from other colleges around the country. At the event he met Cindy Sparks, a student from Michigan State University. Cindy’s family had a beef feed lot that sold steers to restaurants along the East Coast. They married in 1990.

In 2001 they and their three children moved to this 17-acre farm to be near Bob’s family. They started as pumpkin farmers and expanded to naturally ripened strawberries as their main crop. Other “U-Pick-Em” berries followed.

The pasture-raised pig farming developed from their love of livestock. And the freshly made onsite jams and honey completed the “Cottage Industry” list at Folck Family Farm.
