Fiery semi crash closes I-70

Interstate 70 westbound at U.S. 40 was shut down for about 30 minutes after a fiery crash involving two semis today.

A semi without a trailer was pulled over in the shoulder, and the driver, identified as Dempsey Parker, 56, of Somperton, GA, was in the back of his cab, possibly sleeping, troopers said.

A second semi, driven by Gurvinder Bajwa, 30, of Middleton, Wis., hit it, rolled over and burst into flames. The driver was able to escape before the semi caught fire.

Parker was taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center with injuries not considered life-threatening. He was later transferred to Miami Valley Hospital by CareFlight.
