Evacuations ordered after meth lab discovered at Clark County state park

One person was arrested and at least two people are sought after a methamphetamine lab was found at Buck Creek State Park in Clark County Saturday night.

Ohio Department of Natural Resources Public Information Officer Eric Heis said the lab was neutralized after two nearby campsites were evacuated as a safety precaution.

Crews were dispatched to the campground around 6:30 p.m. after a nearby camper called police to report suspicious activity. When police arrived they discovered at least three people at the raided campsite had outstanding warrants.

When officers returned to make the arrests, only one person remained at the campsite. That suspect’s identity has not been released.

Heis said the lab did not pose a serious problem as only one chemical was found at the site, but said campers were evacuated for four hours while crews responded.

The neutralization of the lab required an assessment of the chemical to ensure no explosions were possible, according to Heis.

One person remained at the suspect campsite when police arrived. That suspect’s identity has not been released.

In July of 2014, a duffel bag containing ingredients to make meth was removed from the same state park. Former Clark County Sheriff Gene Kelly said at the time that the large wooded area near the park likely tempts meth makers.
