Damaging winds, hail possible today

Storms today could become strong to severe with damaging winds and hail, said Meteorologist Rich Wirdzek.

Showers and thunderstorms will develop this afternoon and overspread the area into the evening, he said. With highs today in the low to mid-80s, the heat and humidity could cause a few storms to be severe, and area football games could be impacted by rain and lightning.

Thunderstorms will be possible early tonight, with a cooling and drying trend late. A lingering shower is possible pre-dawn, he said. Lows will drop to near 60.

Morning clouds will give way to afternoon sun Saturday. It will breezy and cooler with highs near 70.

Fall officially begins at 4:44 pm. Sunday. It will be sunny and cool with highs in the upper 60s.
