Arts Council names LEGO Contest winners

With 31 entries to choose from, judges from the OhioLUG (LEGO Users Group) didn’t have an easy time picking the best from the creative entries in the Champaign County Arts Council’s LEGO Building Contest.

The contest ties in with the “Build a Better World LEGO Exhibit” currently on display at the Arts Council gallery at 119 Miami St. through Friday, July 28. There were six age groups including one for adults/families.

Among the winning entries were replicas of the Champaign Gal B-25 airplane, a movie theater, an airport, dinosaurs, a castle, houses and a tissue box holder. Three places were awarded to divisions with at least 10 entries.

“We applaud all the creativity and hard work,” said Heather Brackney, Champaign County Arts Council executive director.

These will be part of the exhibit along with the OhioLUG’s cityscape display that took four hours to set up. It includes Columbus landmarks and a beach house and three skyscrapers, the smallest of which used 15,000 bricks alone.

The display will be open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 22. Awards will be given at 6 p.m. July 28, followed by a showing of “The LEGO Batman Movie.”

Admission is free.
