New Clark County officials to be sworn in this week

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine will swear Clark County Sheriff-Elect Deb Burchett into office this week.

The ceremony will be held Wednesday at the Champions Center at the Clark County Fairgrounds at 7 p.m. The event is open to the public. Burchett will be the first female Clark County sheriff.

“I am very excited about it,” Burchett said of getting sworn into office. “I am very excited that the attorney general, Mike DeWine, also decided to come.”

DeWine’s office said he works closely with county sheriffs and that he is honored to swear Burchett into county office.

Kyle Koehler will be the guest speaker of the night, Burchett said. Burchett said she also expects to speak. She will take office on Jan. 2.

Other new county officials are also being sworn in Wednesday. At 3:30 p.m., incoming Clark County Common Pleas Clerk of Court Melissa Tuttle will be sworn into office. She is being sworn in by Judge Denise Moody in courtroom two at Clark County Common Pleas Court.

Tuttle will replace longtime clerk Ron Vincent, who served for nearly 40 years. She will start her term on Jan. 2 as well.

New commissioners Melanie Flax Wilt and Lowell McGlothin will be sworn in at 10:30 a.m. that day. They will be sworn in by Probate Court Judge Richard Carey in a courtroom just outside the county commissioners’ office on the fifth floor of the municipal building.

Flax Wilt’s term as commissioner starts on Dec. 31 while McGlothin starts on Jan. 1.

The ceremonies are open to the public.
