Students at Shawnee High School and Possum School were sheltered in place Wednesday morning for a planned random search of the buildings.

Local law enforcement and K9 units searched for drugs, Superintendent Gregg Morris said, but didn’t find anything.

Deputies first went to Possum at about 9 a.m., he said, and then to Shawnee at about 10:45 a.m.

Students remained in their classrooms while the search was completed.

Deputies also searched Southeastern and Northeastern high schools on Tuesday as well.

The search is part of the district’s commitment to provide a safe learning environment for students, Morris said.

“Student safety is our priority,” he said.

All students returned to their normal schedules after the searches.
