Charity Raffles held monthly

County group raises funds.

By Melissa Dabe

SPRINGFIELD —

The new year could bring a windfall to a local charity as well as some lucky winners with the January Clark County Charity Raffle.

Brenda Weatherspoon, co-chair of the newly organized Clark County Charity Raffle, explained that this group was formed with the purpose of helping local nonprofit groups. “Each month, one of our members selects a charity and we raise money for that organization that month. We have 19 members and had our first raffle in December. We had over 100 people at event, and we raised over $530 for REACT, a group that used the money to provide a holiday meal for the community that fed 700 people.”

The event is a quarter auction. Our members each provide baskets of goods each month for the auction. The public buys cards for $6 that have tickets worth a quarter each on them. The tickets get torn off and put into pots in front of the baskets the ticket owner wants to win. Each basket is worth between $10 to $100.

In January, the charity benefiting from the event is the Springfield New Life in Christ Church. “They are trying to start a food pantry, so in addition to the money we raise, we are also asking for the public to bring a nonperishable food item in exchange for an extra door prize ticket,” Weatherspoon said.

The event is always on the first Tuesday of the month, at 6:30 p.m. at the Courtyard Marriott.

The Charity Raffle is seeking additional members. Members must provide four baskets each month, plus $20 for a table at each event to display their wares. If you are interested in becoming a member, contact Weatherspoon at (937) 608-5193.
