It started almost seven years.

“My mom started a service where we would get together on Christmas and deliver meals to people who are homebound or in need,” said Jennifer Holman, coordinator of the German Twp. Fire Holiday Food Drive.

What once started with a handful of meals reached 663 this year, said Holman, who added her mother would be a bit overwhelmed to see what it has grown to today. She passed away in 2012 and now it’s done in her legacy.

The crew delivers to anyone in Clark County.

“We have some people just coming home from the hospital; some people who are disabled and then families who are just low-income and needing a little assistance for the season,” Holman said.

The meals are made up of many items and funds donated from community partners from the area, including Collier’s Family Restaurant, Cake Creations from New Carlisle, Stephens Bakery and Orchard, Dole, and Storm Martial Arts.

The meals are delivered by firefighters from the division as well as volunteers. Some work in the station to package up the meals, and serve the meals.

“A lot of people have come to know us like Interfaith Hospitality, Children’s Rescue Center. Some of the churches in the area also know we do this every year,” Holman said.

Holman said they are always greeted with tears of joy and happiness. Her mother would be delighted to see what it’s become.

“She would not only be excited and just completely overwhelmed by it but I know that she would be very proud.,” Holman said.
