The movie "The Old Man and the Gun" will star big names such as Robert Redford and Casey Affleck, according to the Internet Movie Database.

While being an extra may not seem like a gig that will launch your career into show business, you might be surprised at how many stars started their career in show business as extras.

Here are 12 famous people who made one or more appearances as movie extras before hitting the big time, according to website Mental Floss:

1. Brad Pitt

Pitt was an extra billed as a “Partygoer/Preppie Guy at Fight” in 1987’s “Less Than Zero.”

2. Clint Eastwood

Eastwood was a member of Central Casting in the 1950s and was an uncredited extra in several films before landing leading roles.

3. Sylvester Stallone

Stallone played an extra in Woody Allen’s 1971 film “Bananas” as a subway mugger. He was also an extra in Jane Fonda’s 1971 psychological thriller “Klute” as a disco patron.

4. Marilyn Monroe

Monroe’s first ever screen appearance was as an extra in “Scudda Hoo! Scudda Hay!” in 1948. Monroe had only one line and can also be briefly glimpsed sitting in a canoe with another actress.

5. Bruce Willis

Willis played as an extra in the courtroom scene of Paul Newman’s 1981 film, “The Verdict.”
