Family displaced at Springfield house fire

A family of five will have to find another home after a fire destroyed much of theirs today on Cypress Street.

One person was home at the time and reported the fire shortly before 6 p.m. at a home in the 1000 block of Cypress Street, according to Springfield Battalion Chief Randy Keifer.

No one was injured and the cause is under investigation.

Keifer said the fire started in the kitchen and spread to the upper floor. The cause is not considered suspicious.

A family of two adults and three children, as well as one other adult resident, are being assisted by the American Red Cross, Keifer said.
