Mundy was transported to Springfield Regional Medical Center, where he died. He had one gunshot wound in the right thigh according to a Springfield Police Division incident report.

This was the second shooting Springfield Police investigated in the area. Officers responded to a report of shots fired — but no injuries — along with the same stretch of Rice Street on the night before.

Since the shooting, Detective James McCutcheon has been following potential leads. Several names have been brought up he said and they have been investigated but it has not led to any arrests.

“Mr. Mundy, no matter what he was involved with or not involved with, he didn’t deserve to die in the way that he did and his family doesn’t deserve to be put through this now knowing for as long as they have,” McCutcheon said.

So far, the many leads have not panned out.

James’ mother Prudence Mundy said it’s like a nightmare she can’t wake up from.

“I wake up every morning and then I remember and I relive every day. It’s kind of like, ‘Oh, did this really happen? And it’s been like that for two years,” Mundy said.

She believes there are people in the area who know what happened and she would like for them to come forward so she can put this tragedy and the rage she feels behind her.

Mundy has walked the area where her son’s murder took place she said asking questions and posting flyers hoping her pleas will bring justice to her son.

“I’m not going nowhere. I’m going to keep walking the streets until I find who took my son’s life and why,” Mundy said.

His birthday is October she said. He would have been 27. This would be a great present she added to finally have closure.

“We just need people to put themselves in this situation, if this was your son, boyfriend, husband, you would want the community to help you out as well and that’s all we are asking for is a little bit of help,” McCutcheon said.

If you have any information about this murder, you are asked to call the Springfield Police at 937-324-7685.
