For something a little different this holiday season, you can visit a restored Victorian home and experience the warmth of the Christmas season with Mike and Patti Brougher this weekend.

For a small fee, guests will tour of this historic house on South Fountain Avenue, and take in the architectural features as well as the lush decorations the Brougher’s have been working on since September.

“I started decorating in September because we had a Christmas House on Halloween for the neighborhood kids, and they loved it,” said Patti Brougher. “Then we decided that we could do an open house for Christmas to help the historical society, and I just kept decorating!”

“We have 14 Christmas trees, some are decorated with themes like Santas, and snowmen, and others are decorated to match decor in the rooms. We have a 9-foot tree and two 8-foot trees in the entryway, and three trees in our bedroom,” said Brougher.

In addition to tours of the house, guests will also get their pictures taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Tickets will be available at the door. Tours will last about a half hour.

Brougher said the house was built in 1880. “The Elliotts of Elliott Insurance lived here for about 50 years. We bought it after it had been abandoned and empty for eight months. We renovated it over the last year and a half, painting and refinishing the wood floors,” she said.

The funds raised benefit the South Fountain Historical Society. “It’s a nonprofit that helps the neighborhood,” said Brougher. “We give interest free loans to help people in the historic district on South Fountain restore their homes.”
