David Shaw is the new mayor of Tremont City, according to unofficial results from the Clark County Board of Elections.
But there is still a dispute about whether he actually lives in the village.
Shaw defeated current mayor Tony Flood 86 votes to 69 votes Tuesday, Nov. 3, according to unofficial election results.
“I think it’s fabulous,” Shaw said. “I think it shows people who really live in the village don’t necessarily like what’s been going on.”
In August Shaw filed a petition to detach from the village. The request was approved by the village council and Clark County Commission.
The council filed a lawsuit against Shaw and the Clark County Board of Elections Monday afternoon, requesting that Shaw’s votes not be counted.
However, Clark County Assistant Prosecutor Andrew Pickering said the paperwork the village submitted to have Shaw’s home removed from the village was faulty because it was not properly certified by the county auditor.
Shaw does, technically, still live in the village, Pickering said. But Pickering said the Clark County Commission, which approved Shaw’s petition for detachment Sept. 29, will file the correct paperwork in a couple of weeks.
And since the petition has been acted on, it cannot be withdrawn now, Pickering said.
“I believe, by Thanksgiving, (Shaw) will no longer be a resident of the village,” Pickering said.
There is also at least one newcomer to Tremont City’s council — Ryan Pequignot, 26, finished ahead of seven other challengers with 90 votes. Larry Blevins was behind him with 84 votes, followed by Jeffrey Thompson with 82 votes.
“I’m pleased with the results,” Pequignot said. “I want to thank those who voted for me and who supported me through my campaign.”
For the fourth council seat, both Steve Heider and Clifford Allen received 78 votes, placing them in a tie that will require a recount.
In Bethel Twp., the two incumbents defeated two challengers to retain their titles as trustees.
Nancy Brown finished with 2,580 votes, followed by David Finfrock, 2,185 votes.
In New Carlisle city council race, incumbent Lowell McGlothin received 825 votes and incumbent Raymond Lowery came in next with 634. votes, but newcomer Jane Manneman secured the third seat with 584 votes over incumbent Terri Hoffman’s 520 votes.
Come on Tremont let the town be like it used to be. EVERYONE Help Each Other! My place looks good and lets help the others.

Tremont City isn't even a dot on a map. You keep talking about the "town that once was", I'm in my 40's and never remember this even being a REAL TOWN! IT'S AN INTERSECTION AT BEST!!! Shut up and worry about something important for a change.
