URBANA — An incumbent and two write-in candidates will serve on the Urbana school board in an unusual race during the Tuesday, Nov. .3, election.

Jim Arter, the lone candidate on the ballot, will return to his seat on the school board after receiving 2,345 votes, according to final, unofficial results.

Arter said he will work closely with others in the district to help determine the next step for Urbana City Schools.

Alyssa Dunham and Mark Bloemhard were also elected to the school board, with 373 and 285 votes, respectively. Joseph Timm received 192 votes.

The race was unusual because while there were four candidates, only one name was on the ballot since three were write-in candidates.

This year, several of the candidates did not make the decision to run until after the deadline had passed to get their names on the ballot. Both Dunham and Bloemhard said they were impressed that although their names were not on the ballot, numerous voters paid close enough attention to the race to remember the write-in candidates.
