SPRINGFIELD — Voters returned incumbent City Commissioners Karen Duncan and Dan Martin to office, along with newcomer Joyce Chilton.

Challenger Rob Baker lost in the Tuesday, Nov. 3, election.

The four candidates vied for three seats. Current Commissioner Orphus Taylor is not seeking re-election.

Duncan received the most votes at 6,505, followed by Martin with 6,007 votes and Chilton with 5,715 votes, in final, unofficial results.

Baker received 5,105 votes.

Duncan, 63, first won election to the commission four years ago and will now have a second term.

“I feel like the people of Springfield like what I’m doing and I’m very pleased about that,” she said. “I’m delighted to continue the work that I’ve been doing.”

Martin, 41, first won his commission seat in 1997 and has been re-elected four times now.

“I’m really excited because there’s some really good opportunities coming up for Springfield in the next few years and I’m glad I will still be able to take part in those opportunities,” he said.

Chilton, 51, was a first-time candidate. She is retired from the Clark County Public Library and also has worked as a paralegal. She thanked voters.

“I’m just grateful to the voters of Springfield who have confidence in me,” she said.

Baker, 50, was a first-time candidate and is a Wittenberg University political science and urban studies professor.

Everyone ran a good race, Baker said, and he congratulated his opponents.

“It was hard fought,” he said.

I look forward to Joyce Chilton as commissioner. I did see her in the debate on channel 5 and She seemed aware in tune and on time with her answers to the questions. Sometimes people who study Political science aren't the best choice because they don't have a connection to the People. Perhaps now we can work on a strategy that brings jobs back into the city limits which expand the city tax base improves chances for city home ownership and and stops the Sweetheart deals for township schools.

I think Joyce Chilton will serve the citizens well. We need people who can relate to and who understand the needs of the people ... Good Wishes and CONGRATULATIONS!

I hope Chilton does a good job, she certainly doesn't care about the public. I called her number asking for a sign to be removed that was blocking traffic. Left a message once, talked to a man once--the sign was never removed. I nearly got in an accident a couple of times because people could not see traffic at that intersection. I voted against Chilton because she doesn't care about the people, obviously.
