On Tuesday, Nov. 3, Urbana voters returned three candidates to their current seats on council while one was elected for the first time.
In the council’s at-large race, Bill Bean and Robert Thorpe defeated Anthony Ehresmann in a race for two available seats.
Both Bean and Thorpe said late Tuesday they have been able to work together well in the past, and will likely focus on working with the city’s administration to bring more jobs to the city.
“I think we’re doing our best and I am going to try to drag as many businesses and jobs into this city as I can,” Bean said.
He also noted he has worked well with Thorpe in the past.
“Bob is a good guy and he really thinks about what is best for Urbana,” Bean said.
Kerry Brugger, who was running for council for the first time, was also able to defeat Douglas Hoffman in a race for the third ward seat.
While Brugger said he wants to help bring some unity between the administration and council members, for now he’s going to take the time to get acclimated to his new position.
“I’m going to just kind of soak it in and see how things move forward,” he said.
Eugene Fields Jr. also won the race for the first ward council seat. He ran unopposed.
