On Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 4, Joe Catanzaro was at work as he always is at Catanzaro’s Pizza and Subs on Dayton Road at the edge of Springfield, but one thing was very different.
“People come into the store to congratulate me and hand me notes with their name and address,” Cantanzaro said during an afternoon phone interview.
On Tuesday, Catanzaro, a long time local business owner, was unofficially elected to one of the seats on the Mad River Township Board of Trustees. It was his first run for elected office.
“It’s an honor that people think so much of you to vote for you,” he explained. “I appreciate the opportunity to serve.”
A life long resident of the township, Catanzaro said that during the campaign he had knocked on 3,750 doors throughout the township including residences in the eastern side of the township and trailer courts.
“How else can you find out what people are thinking?” he asked.
Looking forward to his term in office, Catanzaro plans a fiscal focus. “I hope to balance the budget and get more on a cash basis.”
And he looks forward to working with the township trustees and officials.
“I grew up with these guys. I can work with anyone.”
