Deputies catch suspect in attempted robbery

Sheriff’s deputies took a man into custody they suspect attempted to rob the Speedway on East Main Street early this morning.

The man reportedly purchased a bottled water and when the clerk opened the cash drawer during the transaction, the man attempted to grab cash from the drawer, deputies said. The clerk pushed the suspect away and the man ran off, according to authorities.

Deputies located the man just down the street and took him into custody, according to reports.

The case remains under investigation and no official charges have been filed.
