SPRINGFIELD — A Springfield High School sophomore will be tried as an adult in connection to the shooting death of a local man during a home invasion in October, according to court records.
Tyson M. Dearmond, 16, was indicted by a Clark County grand jury Monday, Nov. 30, on charges of murder, aggravated burglary and tampering with evidence, according to court records.
The suspect is not the youngest person in the county to be tried as an adult, according to the prosecutor’s office, although officials were unclear about the age of the youngest suspect.
Dearmond is accused in the killing of Demarkis L. Jones, 26, on Southern Avenue on Oct. 15.
Two other men, Demetris L. Peterson, 21, and Erik D. Wilson, 27, were arrested on charges of felony murder days after the shooting.
Investigators believe Dearmond, along with Jones, Peterson and Wilson, forced their way into a home at 214 W. Southern Ave. on Oct. 15, demanded money and pistol-whipped a man inside the house.
The man, who the News-Sun has opted not to name, fired two to four shots, hitting Jones, who stumbled outside and collapsed, according to a police report.
Dearmond, Peterson and Wilson reportedly fled the area.
Dearmond was booked into the Clark County Jail last week, where he remained Tuesday.
He is expected to be arraigned in Clark County Common Pleas Court later this week.
