SPRINGFIELD — A Catawba man could face up to 24 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to charges he filmed two juvenile girls while they showered at his home.

Jack Lee Maley, 45, of 350 N. Champaign St., set up a camera in his bathroom and filmed the two girls while they used the shower between July 2009 and July 2011. He’s been charged with three counts of illegal use of minor in nudity oriented material or performance, second-degree felonies, said Clark County Assistant Prosecutor Brian Driscoll.

“He actually had the video camera on while he was setting it up and you could see him taking it and placing it in a basket that was up at an angle where the girls were not able to see it,” Driscoll said.

Maley faces up to 24 years in jail and $45,000 in fines if sentenced to the maximum penalty. No terms have been set yet in the plea agreement signed Thursday, said Clark County Common Pleas Court Judge Richard O’Neill.

One of the victims discovered Maley’s camera and turned over the footage to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Driscoll said.

“One of the girls actually found the camera in the driveway of the residence. They wanted to see what it was. They took that camera to the computer, plugged it in and to their amazement there they were being filmed while taking showers,” he said.

Sam Weiner, Maley’s attorney, declined to comment on the case until after sentencing. A pre-sentencing hearing has been set for 8:30 a.m. Jan. 19, according to court documents.

This is the second case involving nude images of juveniles to be heard in Clark County this week.

Shannon Harkins, 34, was sentenced to 14 years in prison for having 70 photos of children engaged in sex acts — ranging from infants to young teens — on his cellphone. He sent some of the images to a woman in Cincinnati in June 2010. She called police.

In addition, Harkins must register as a Tier 2 sex offender, according to court documents.

He was facing more than 70 counts of pandering sexually oriented materials and pandering obscenity involving minors. As part of an agreement, he pleaded guilty to three of those charges in November.
