Authorities are looking for a man who fled officers after a traffic stop early this morning, Nov. 5.

According to a report from the Springfield Police Division, Darius A. Grooms, 25, of 356 Yellow Springs St., fled on foot after officers stopped a vehicle he was riding in at 3:07 a.m. According to the report, a warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of carrying a concealed weapon, receiving stolen property, having a weapon under disability and obstructing official business.

The report showed officers stopped a green Chevy vehicle near the intersection of East and Harrison Streets after noticing it had expired tags. After a brief investigation, police determined that the registration sticker on the vehicle was stolen. The driver, Precious L. Beverly, whose age and address were not listed in the report, was arrested on charges of receiving stolen property, failure to comply with the signal of a police officer and having expired plates. She was ordered into court.

Officers also checked Grooms, a passenger in the vehicle, and found there were no outstanding warrants for his arrest. But he fled on foot and escaped when officers discovered a loaded handgun under the passenger seat, according to the report.

The report showed he was not allowed to have a gun because of a previous drug trafficking conviction in Clark County in August last year.
