A man was assaulted late Sunday, Nov. 22, after he apparently yelled a racial slur at a group of men near East Grand Avenue.
According to a report by the Springfield Police Division, authorities responded to the intersection of East Grand and Linden Avenues at 11:49 p.m. after a truck was found parked in the middle of the street.
The report showed the truck was facing north, and officers found the driver slumped over the steering wheel bleeding through the nose.
According to the report, the man, who was intoxicated, told officers he had yelled a racial slur at a group of men nearby. He said three men stopped his truck in the middle of the road and began to kick and punch him. A stereo was also taken from the truck and the men fled on foot.
The report showed police contacted the victim’s wife, who moved the vehicle and took the man to the hospital.
