SPRINGFIELD — A former Greenon High School teacher accused of sexually abusing a high school student pleaded guilty to a related charge Tuesday, Oct. 6.
Michael A. Markeson, 28, pleaded guilty to sexual battery in Clark County Common Pleas Court Tuesday, according to court records.
He was accused of sexually assaulting a male high school student he reportedly knew through his work as a drama coach at Greenon High School, according to a sheriff’s report.
Markeson was originally charged with sexual battery, rape and gross sexual imposition.
Jon Paul Rion, Markeson’s attorney, said the plea agreement was fair.
“The two charges that were dismissed were dismissed because they weren’t true, we’ve said that from the beginning,” said Rion. “This was a consensual relationship.”
Clark County Assistant Prosecutor Andy Wilson declined to comment.
Markeson was arrested in June and was suspended without pay by the district shortly after. He resigned in August.
He is expected to be sentenced on the sexual battery charge Oct. 21.
