CONCORD TWP. — Two men are in custody after allegedly firing a shot at two Ohio Division of Wildlife officials, leaving a bullet hole in the windshield of their vehicle late Friday, Oct. 30.

The men, whose names haven’t been released, were taken into custody after a police pursuit which ensued after they allegedly fired on two officials with the Ohio Division of Wildlife.

The shooting occurred about three miles west of state Route 560 and Woodville Pike around midnight Friday as wildlife officials patrolled for deer poachers, said Jeff Tipton, state wildlife officer, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Division.

“A vehicle came into the field, headlighted our vehicle, all of a sudden a shot fired out and went through our windshield,” he said.

The bullet pierced the middle of the windshield and reportedly travelled between the two wildlife officials in the vehicle, but neither were injured.

Wildlife officers pursued and, with Champaign County deputy sheriffs and Ohio Highway Patrol troopers, apprehended the two suspects shortly after the chase.

Tipton didn’t know what charges might be filed in connection to the incident.

Investigators recovered some firearms from the scene, but officials don’t know what type of weapon was used in the shooting.

No injuries were reported.
