Teen arrested with knife at Greenon H.S.

A 16-year-old Greenon High School student is facing a felony weapons charge after he brought a knife to school and showed it off to friends, according to the Clark County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies and detectives responded Wednesday afternoon after receiving a call from the principal, who received an email from a concerned student, according to the incident report.

The boy admitted to having a folding Gerber Buck knife. Witnesses told detectives he had been showing it off on school grounds, but he didn't make any threats.

The juvenile was taken to the Clark County Juvenile Detention Center and is being held on a charge of illegal conveyance of a weapon in a school safety zone, a fifth-degree felony.

District spokeswoman Megan Anthony said a "one-call" was made to parents to inform them of the situation. She said the district takes school safety very seriously and students are encouraged to report concerns in any manner, whether email, phone or other method.

Details of how the student would be disciplined by the district were not released.
