Suspect in slaying of George Walker Jr. pleads not guilty

UPDATE @2:20 p.m. 10/2/2014: Dennis H. Kennedy Jr., 20, appeared in court today and pleaded not guilty. His bond was set at $250,000. He was also given a public defender.

Police in Springfield said an arrest has been made in the fatal shooting of 20-year-old George Walker Jr.

Dennis H. Kennedy Jr., 20, was arrested Tuesday and is being held in the Clark County Jail on suspicion of murder and felonious assault.

Police said Kennedy is the suspect in Walker's death.

Walker, a standout high school athlete, died May 30 at Springfield Regional Medical Center after being shot that morning near the intersection of Grand and Lowry avenues.

Witnesses who called 911 reported hearing as many as 10 shots fired.

According to the victim's father, George Walker Jr. had plans to leave the city in June to go play football at Georgia Military College.
