Stolen mail leads to slow speed pursuit, arrests

Clark County deputies are questioning two men following a slow speed pursuit through two counties.

Clark County Sgt. Kris Shultz said Thursday morning a resident on East County Line Road in Clark County witnessed two men in a black Mercedes Benz steal mail out of his mailbox. The victim called authorities and several undercover detectives in unmarked cars began following the vehicle.

Sgt. Shultz spotted the Mercedes and the unmarked cars while driving his cruiser and initiated a slow speed pursuit at Middle Urbana Road and County Line Road in Clark County. The driver of the Mercedes did not pull over. The pursuit continued in to Champaign County, only reaching maximum speeds of 45 mph.

Sgt. Shultz said the men were throwing mail and packages out the window of their Mercedes as they were driving.

Stop sticks were deployed at Hickory Grove Road in Champaign County. The driver of the car pulled over on Middle Urbana Road before hitting the stop sticks.

The two men were taken in to custody without incident. Deputies have not released the identities of the men, but said they are from Reynoldsburg, Ohio.
