Springfield standoff ends in 5th hour; suspect at large

UPDATE @ 4:24 p.m. (Dec. 5):

Springfield police Chief Steve Moody said after officers entered the home on Southern Avenue, it turned out the suspect had since jumped out of a second-story window and is now at large.

Police had been there since 10 a.m. Monday to serve a search warrant on a Kyle Harris, wanted for aggravated robbery.

Moody said officers heard a voice inside the house prior to knocking on the door, and after knocking heard a gun cock and one gunshot.

UPDATE @ 4:02 p.m. (Dec. 5):

After more than five hours, a standoff has ended in Springfield. Law enforcement are removing the police tape and moving police vehicles away from the home. News Center 7 reporter Caroline Reinwald is on scene awaiting more information.

UPDATE @ 3:40 p.m. (Dec. 5):

Police are reported to have shot out windows with rubber bullets at the home, according to our crew on the scene.

SWAT officers have also been seen putting on gas masks.

The standoff is now in its fifth hour.

UPDATE @1:40 p.m.

Police tell us officers went to serve an arrest warrant at a home in the 400 block of East Southern Avenue and they heard a single gunshot from inside the home.

No communication has happened between officers and the man inside the home since the gunshot was heard, police tell us.

An officer is now using a bullhorn in an effort to get the man to exit the home.

SWAT officers have responded to the scene of an apparent standoff in Springfield.

Police have a home surrounded in the 400 block of East Southern Avenue.

Vehicle and pedestrian traffic is blocked from traveling on East Southern.

Several police cruisers are on scene. An officer is keeping our photographer a block away from the house.

Early reports indicated a man wanted for an aggravated robbery fired a gunshot in the home when officers arrived to arrest him.

Police in Springfield are shutting down traffic on East Southern Avenue as reports indicate officers are working to apprehend an aggravated robbery suspect.

Crews responded around 10:10 a.m. to a home in the 400 block of East Southern where a man is wanted for aggravated robbery, according to police scanner traffic.

Early reports indicate a shot was fired inside the home when Springfield officers attempted to make contact.

Traffic on East Southern was being shut down at Linden and Tibbetts avenues.
