A Springfield man accused of snorting drugs in the back of a police cruiser last month has been indicted on multiple drug charges.
Brandon D. Bess, 30, of 817 Timberview Drive, was indicted by the Clark County grand jury on Monday and charged with one count of possession of cocaine and aggravated possession of drugs.
Police officers were investigating a theft at the Family Dollar store on West Main Street last month when they noticed Bess walking around the store. Bess was taken into custody for two warrants and allegedly was found to have a baggie with prescription pills believed to be Klonopin, according to a police report. He was taken back to headquarters in a police van.
As Bess was being booked, officers inspected the patrol van and allegedly found a small crystal-like substance where Bess was sitting, the report says.
Officers reviewed the in-car camera footage, which they alleged showed Bess reach down to remove his right shoe, pick up the substance and put his shoe back on. Seconds later, Bess allegedly attempted to try and snort the substance, but was unable to snort all of the substance because the van had arrived at headquarters, the report says.
Bess initially told police he didn’t snort anything. After being told he would be taken to the hospital because he possibly snorted something, he told officers: “Man, I ain’t going to overdose, it was a small piece of ‘ice’ I had in my shoe and I won’t overdose off that,” the report says.
